Your rights as a carer
Giving carers the right information, advice and support at the right time can help them continue caring while managing other aspects of their lives.

Under the Care Act, you are entitled to a carer’s assessment where you appear to have needs for support, and you will be entitled to this support if you meet the national eligibility criteria. The person you care for is entitled to a ‘needs assessment' if they appear to have needs for care and support.
The Local Authority must also provide information that promotes your wellbeing and, where possible, prevents people from needing support.
Carers also have employment rights as well as the right not to be discriminated against under the Equality Act.
