Looking after family or friends

If you look after a family member, a partner, or friends in need of help because they are ill, frail, struggle with mental health or substance abuse, or have a disability, and are not paid to do so, then you are recognised in law as a carer.

Leeds City Council values the significant contribution of unpaid carers in Leeds and recognises that the combination of the COVID pandemic, the cost-of-living crisis and the challenges faced by the social care system has further impacted on the health and wellbeing of carers.

If you are at risk of abuse or neglect, or you suspect someone else is, report it now.
