Money and Benefits

Many unpaid carers struggle financially as they work to care and support for someone else for many reasons. It is important for carers to know that they, and the person they care for, are receiving all their entitled benefits. 

Welfare Rights Unit

Leeds City Council's Welfare Rights Unit can give you free, confidential and impartial advice and support on a whole range of welfare benefits and can help you with the process of making claims and appeals.

Turn2Us is a national charity providing practical help to people who are struggling financially.  There is a section specifically for unpaid carers which includes a benefits calculator and grant finder.

The Leeds Money Information Centre

Leeds MIC provides free, confidential and impartial help and advice on a range of money related matters such as debt, money, energy and utilities.  They can also provide one to one tailored support via digital, telephone and face to face appointments.

The Money Helper Service

The Money Helper Service has been set up to provide free and impartial money advice and includes information about the support available for carers, including benefits and tax credits, and how to manage the money of the person being cared-for.
