There is a range of equipment available to help maintain your independence in completing personal hygiene tasks. From daily living aids and perching stools to grab rails and adaptations there are a lot of options available to you.

Equipment can be privately purchased from a wide range of retailers both online and on the high street.  If you feel that you need further information or advice please call Adult Social Care on 0113 2224401 to make a referral.  Someone will call you back to discuss the difficulties you are having and if necessary, arrange for an assessment when equipment may be provided to you, from Leeds Equipment Service, free of charge.

Adaptations

If you are struggling with aspects of using your bathroom you may want to adapt or remodel your bathroom to make it more accessible. Some examples of this can include:

  • Installing an overbath shower
  • Removing the bath and replacing with a wet floor shower
  • Installing an automatic ‘wash/dry’ toilet
  • Installing a ground floor toilet or bathroom
  • Modifying shower controls/taps etc

It is worth noting that if you carry out any work that is specifically for someone who has a disability, then you may be eligible for VAT relief on the works
