There is a range of equipment available to help you feel safe and independent at home. If parts of your current home are no longer suitable for you, there are many options available to help you stay independent and in control.

Equipment can be privately purchased from a wide range of retailers both online and on the high street.  If you feel that you need further information or advice please call Adult Social Care on 0113 2224401 to make a referral.  Someone will call you back to discuss the difficulties you are having and if necessary, arrange for an assessment when equipment may be provided to you, from Leeds Equipment Service, free of charge.

Doorbell

There are a number of devices which can help you feel safe in your home. For example, a doorbell camera is a Wi-Fi-enabled smart device with motion detectors, recording capabilities, and a speaker that allows you to speak to the person at the door. It alerts you when somebody is at the door when the doorbell is pressed, and even when the doorbell is not pressed. It can be set up to send alerts to your phone or smart TV to show you who’s calling without you having to open the door or even be at home.

There are also other solutions such as wireless intercom systems which do not require access to a Wi-Fi connection or a smart device.

You can find and buy these and similar products by searching doorbell technology in your browser.

Exit Sensors

Property and door exit sensors can be very useful for people who are in the early stages of dementia or have other medical conditions that may affect memory or cognitive abilities. They identify when a door has been opened and send a signal to an alarm unit – this will then notify a carer or response centre that someone has opened a door and likely left that room or house. They can be set to be active during a specific time if required. These sensors can be added to an existing telecare package with Leeds City Council.

If you are interested in ordering one of Leeds City Councils telecare packages you can complete an online application form or over the phone.
