The cost of someone taking your waste away is affected by two main things:
- Size and weight
The more rubbish you have, the more you pay for its removal. Larger amounts take longer to load, which increases the labour cost. Responsible waste carriers deposit at legal disposal sites, which charge by the weight of rubbish.
- Type of waste
Fridges, TVs and upholstered furniture such as sofas, armchairs and cushions cost a lot more to be recycled safely, so you should expect to pay more for these to be collected, compared with general or garden waste.
There are minimum costs a waste carrier is charged to dispose of your waste legally. These fees do not include labour or collection changes, or additional fees for hazardous waste, such as fridge's and TV's.

If you're quoted anything less than these amounts, it's likely that your waste would be fly tipped.
