The Learning Disability Service provides specialist health and social care services to people across Leeds. This includes a wide range accessible information resource on access to health care as part of the Get Checked out service.
Learning Disability
Someone with a learning disability can find it challenging to independently carry out everyday activities or engage with services and social activities. There are several organisations and services which provide an accessible front door which include:
LEEP1 is a self-advocacy service which enables adults with learning disabilities to be in control of their own organisation and communicate with other services about ways to help tailor the services that impact them. LEEP1 provides a safe space for adults with learning disability to learn new skills, access social events and access information and support to help them stay well.
Leeds Mencap offers a variety of activity groups and services for children and young adults, aged 8 to 25, which provide an opportunity to try new skills in a safe and welcoming environment, meet understanding peers and have fun. Leeds Mencap also offers support to family members including parents and siblings with a family services team are here to help, with specialist knowledge to help advocate for you, listen to you, support you and can point you in the right direction of additional services you can access.
Through the Maze is an information and signposting service tailored to support adults with learning disability and their family carers. Through the Maze can help you find out about events, activities and groups being run for people with learning disabilities and can signpost to information and services for people with learning disabilities.
