Experiencing Bereavement

Everyone feels different when someone they love dies. You might feel many things at once, and that’s okay. There is no right or wrong way to feel.

Losing someone you care about is always hard, even if you knew it was going to happen. It can take time to understand your feelings and get used to the change.

Here are some things that can help:

  • Talk to someone you trust
  • Take care of yourself
  • Do things that help you feel calm or happy
  • Be kind to yourself — it’s OK to feel sad

When someone or something important is lost, it’s normal to feel very sad. These feelings are called grief. Grief can come in different stages, like feeling shocked, angry, or very sad. These feelings can come and go.

Some days might feel okay, and other days might feel really hard. Try to take things one day at a time. Notice what makes you feel upset or brings back sad memories.

You can write down your feelings in a diary or notebook. This can help you understand your emotions better. You can also try different things to help you feel better, like talking to someone you trust, drawing, or going for a walk.

Sometimes it helps to talk to someone who is trained to listen and support you. They can help you understand your thoughts and feelings when you’re grieving.

They can also help you find ways to feel better and cope with the sadness. Over time, this can help you feel more at peace with what has happened.

It’s important to tell people how you’re feeling. You don’t have to go through sad times alone. You might want to talk to a support service or meet others who have lost someone too. Talking can help you feel less alone
